Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award

Our Sixth-Form students recently completed a four-day walk through the Lake Windermere from Patterdale to Wray Castle.

On the first day, thGOLD DofEe students travelled from Ullswater to the top of the Fairfield while it was hot and sunny outside. However, by mid-morning, thunderstorms, lightning, and torrential rain (more than 5 cm in 24 hours) had taken their place.

The pupils did a great job of listening to directions during the lightning storm and seeking shelter, but the rain did make moving around challenging.

The students arrived to the campsite to find much of it submerged, but they did well to locate a spot and set up their tents.

More rainstorms with the occasional lightning strike and thunder arrive overnight and in the morning.

Heavy rain fell on the second morning, but by the time the students left, it had stopped. This allowed them to cross the pass and go towards Ambleside in the dry.

The students completed their tours of Windermere on days three and four in dry weather with the occasional drizzle.

The Sixth Form students did exceptionally well overall and represented the school exceptionally.
