The Power of Welcome
12 students joined me in the library today to watch a wonderful live webcast, where we were able to hear from authors who have used their own experiences and artistic talents to create 'The Power of Welcome' a graphic novel which narrates the stories of migrants and displaced persons.
Students were engaged by the speakers explaining how and why the graphic novel format was chosen for such a difficult subject matter; largely due to the inclusive nature of images, which are a universal language and should not just be considered the sidekick of writing.
Finally, I'd like to share with you a question arising, which has made me think today: 'Do illustrations tell the parts of stories that words can't'?"
