Yr10 'LIVE' lessons

18 May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child’s education during this challenging time. Your support has been incredible and I have very much enjoyed the communication with so many of you.

As a school, we are constantly reviewing how our teachers can provide the best home learning experience for our Year 10 students during the lockdown. I am writing to you with an update to your child’s virtual learning experience and to our on-line learning policies and protocols.

From Monday 1st June, I am really excited to announce, in the first instance, our English, Maths, Science, Geography and History departments will be providing LIVE tutorials and support to further help students in their learning. The aim of this support is to provide guidance and instructions linked to students’ work and give them the opportunity to ask questions of their teacher and get feedback. Students are encouraged to post questions to their teachers on Microsoft Teams chat facility during and after the lesson. The lessons will be an hour long but teachers will remain on line after the lesson to respond to questions and offer additional guidance and support. In the coming weeks, we will also be incorporating LOOM lessons (recorded video and audio lessons) into the work we set. Many teachers will set work using short pre-recorded videos and audio clips in addition to some live classroom sessions. All teachers will also continue to set work and guidance in the same format to date.

To support you in making sure all students are working safely online, you will need to read the Safeguarding Protocols for Virtual Teaching – For Parents and Students document below. Please read through the protocols carefully with your child to ensure that you and they understand the expectations we have in these live lessons. It is essential that students follow the safeguarding protocols that we have outlined to ensure they are working safely at home. These instructions will also be posted on Edmodo before every ‘Live’ lesson and will be reiterated by the teacher to remind students of the ways in which we work. These Safeguarding Protocols work alongside our ‘Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy’

The timetable for these live lessons from the 1st June is as follows:

I appreciate that for many students and parents (staff too), on-line learning can be a very tricky experience and getting set up with the right learning platform and logging on can be frustrating. To support with all the technicalities, Mr Barclay has written some helpful step by step guidance which will be posted by each teacher, on Edmodo, before every live lesson. These instructions will include the link to the live lesson.

In the meantime, please encourage your child to log onto Edmodo to check for notices from the teachers stated above and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions about how we are moving forward with our virtual learning.

Thank you for your continued support and we hope that this finds you and your family safe and well.

Yours faithfully

Naomi Lewry
Deputy Headteacher
