On Tuesday 28th March three teams of Yr8/9 students attended the inter schools Robotic challenge based at Ricardo engineering.

The competition was attended by 18 teams from several different schools where each team was required to design and create a robotic which could take part in two different events.  Each event requires different skills and functions from the robotic which could only be made with the supplied materials and within the allocated time scale.

The individual tasks were a football match and a Sumo wrestling match.

The students started the task with great enthusiasm to design and create a robotic which they felt would win.  One team in particular received lots of positive praise for the design and shape of the robotic from the different judges around the room but unfortunately didn’t go on to win.

During the visit, students were also given the opportunity to visit various parts of Ricardo from the sound and wind testing areas to the engine testing room.

Whilst there, they also got the opportunity to visit the manufacturing line of the latest McLaren engines and were given a talk on the manufacture and build of Supercar engines and how they work.

A great day, with the students impressing a number of the judges and also being given the opportunity to see a number of engineering skills.
