#SID2017
Chichester High School (CHS) held a video competition open to KS2-4 students who were asked to produce a 2min video, create a game or app around the theme of keeping themselves safe online.
CHS joined hundreds of other organisations across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day (SID) and promoting the safe and responsible use of technology.
To celebrate the day, local primary and secondary schools in the area entered a competition organised by Chichester High School. The suggested themes for their videos etc. were:
- Cyber-bullying
- Sexting
- The issues of social networking (Facebook / Twitter / Snapchap for example)
- Misuse of passwords
- Misuse of sites aimed at students over 18
- Leaving a digital footprint and your online presence
- Privacy settings
- Online blackmail
The teams with the winning video from each school were invited to showcase their winning entry at Chichester High School on Tuesday 7th February, where the judges decided the overall winning entry for each category.

had a tough job judging the outstanding final videos in each Category. Each winning entrant received 2 laptops to take back to their school courtesy of ‘Ergo Computing’ and 2nd and 3rd place won Amazon vouchers.
Assheton Woodall, Vice Principal of Chichester High School, said “Keeping students across West Sussex safe online is such a key aspect of our everyday role as teachers. Over the last few years the role of social media in young people’s lives has become an increasing issue across schools, both locally and nationally. This video competition is our attempt to engage and educate students to keep themselves safe online. It has been great seeing so many students producing and talking about keeping themselves safe online. A big thank you to West Sussex Area A (WASP) Headteachers for supporting this event and contributing to the prize fund.”
The overall results were:
KS2: 1st – West Dean School (team video)
2nd – St Richards primary 3rd - Fishbourne
KS3: 1st – Jamie from Midhurst Rother School
2nd – Chichester Free School 3rd – Bourne Community College
KS4: 1st – The Academy Selsey (two team videos)
