TKAT South Coast DEBATE COMPETITION
TKAT ‘South Coast’ DEBATE COMPETITION
At the beginning of the year, Ishika Dutta and Kitty Ancell, our Year 11 deputy head girls, approached Mrs McKeown with the hope of starting a Debate Club.
With the help of Ms Noakes, the pair began to advertise and recruit in order to form the first Chichester High School Debate Team.
Throughout the year, the team has evolved into a strong force of confident young debaters.
On Wednesday 18th April, they participated in the first ever inter-school TKAT Debate Competition, where they had the chance to debate against the team of The Academy, Selsey.
The two debate topics that had been chosen were: ‘Should Britain become a republic?’, which was argued by everyone, and ‘Should the voting age in the UK be lowered to 16?’ which was argued in the final by CHS team B and the team from The Academy, Selsey.
Both parties debated extremely well, having researched and prepared extensively.
However, massive congratulations must go to the team of The Academy, Selsey, who were the grand victors of the day.
It was an experience enjoyed and valued by all. A big thank you must go to the SLT for all of their help and to our panel of Sixth Form judges.
Many thanks to Ishika and Kitty who hosted the evening. We look forward to hosting many more and involving more TKAT schools on the South Coast.
Thank you to everyone who was involved.
