Baden Powell Challenge

Congratulations to Pippa Baird, Stephanie Brown and Emily Parker who were among a small number of girls locally who completed their Baden Powell Challenge award. At a special Celebration Event in July, the County Commissioner presented them with their awards.

The Baden-Powell Challenge Award is the highest award a Guide can gain in the Guide Section. It is personally challenging and involves sustained effort over a period.

Guides who have made their Promise and gained at least two Challenge badges and two Interest badges can only attempt it. It can take 12-18 months to complete; it is not easy, but it is worth it!

They had to complete 10 clauses (tasks) over five zones that get them to try new things and push their boundaries, including

• organise an international evening

• run a sports or cooking competition

• go on a residential trip somewhere new

• learn first aid

• or do something to help the environment.

Finally, to complete the Challenge and qualify for the Award, they had to attend a special Residential Baden-Powell Adventure, either overnight or a weekend. These residential trips involved spending time with Guides they have not met before, to trying something new, beyond their previous experiences. Part of the Award was to document all of their experiences during this Challenge and to present it to their Group and Guiding Leaders.

Well done girls!
