Yr7 Football - County Cup FINAL

Our Year 7 football team travelled to Lancing FC, the home of Sussex FA, to play in the County Cup Final against Cardinal Newman School.

A 7.45 kick off under the lights added to the excitement and enhanced an already memorable experience for the boys. Cardinal Newman were by far the best team we have played this season. They were an excellent passing team as well as being very powerful and very physical. Cardinal Newman started quickly and Dylan Murray in goal made two excellent saves in the first 10 minutes.

Their early pressure soon paid off as their excellent number 14 scored the opening goal. This seemed to spark us into life and the awesome Jack Hinshelwood scored the goal of the game to equalize for CHS (see Twitter and Facebook for an action replay).
Jack continued to drive us forward at every opportunity and Dylan continued to deny the powerful Cardinal Newman centre forward. CHS then conceded an unlucky goal on the stroke of half time and we went in at the break 2-1 down.

Before kick off

The game remained very tight until 10 minutes before the end when by pushing for an equaliser we conceded successive counterattack goals. We had a late flurry of attempts at goal but it was too tall an order to come back so Cardinal Newman ran out deserved County Cup winners.

Mr Murphy, Mr Palmer and myself are very proud of the boys and despite this defeat it is an incredible achievement to reach the County Cup final. They have played some fantastic football along the way and they have represented their school perfectly throughout.

They will no doubt get another opportunity to play in a final so watch this space.

Please congratulate them on their impressive achievement;

Dylan Murray, Alfie Cullum Charles, Toby Hughes, Ollie Barry, Freddie Phillips, Jack Hinshelwood, Joe Masters, Terriq Osman, Kieran Jones, Ollie Broughton, Zak Ungermand and Alfie Netley Harris.
