Curriculum intent

At CHS, we believe Modern Foreign languages should provide all students with cultural and linguistic awareness of other countries and languages by studying real world topics. We aim to create a positive and ENJOYable learning environment which encourages success at all levels. We provide aspirational opportunities to EXCEL in all aspects of language learning, through our curriculum and extra-curricular activities such as foreign language trips and visits.  

We offer students opportunities to develop resilience and independence to ENDEAVOUR to fulfil their potential by becoming confident, capable and articulate linguists.  Metacognitive and recall strategies are integral to our teaching of MFL. 

Cultural awareness is part of every languages lesson due to the very nature of learning a modern foreign language. Opportunities are offered to research different countries and communities in order to deepen cultural awareness. Current issues such as immigration are studied along with role models, sport, music, technology, film, TV, identity and culture through food, meals, shopping, festivals and traditions. Local, national, international and global areas of interest are studied through various topics such as different regions, community projects, holidays, current and future study and employment, healthy living, vices and the environment, community projects and volunteering.
