Sports Day 2023

The clouds may have been shading the school from sunshine but it didn’t put a dampener on the day when several records were broken.

Students across many year groups, but particularly the younger years who were smashing records in running and athletic events.

Across the years, the most records were broken by Year 7 who smashed records including Aaliyah Thorpe 100m run at 14 seconds.

Ultimately it was Mr Roberts’ form group who topped the years with their performances. Students in 9D managed to take home the top spot on the day with some incredible scores.

Speaking of his form coming out top of the school, Teacher of Business, Mr Roberts said: “Outstanding achievement to win overall on sports day.  I am really proud of their sporting efforts.  Very well done!”

A huge thank you to Mrs Lewry, Deputy Heateacher at Chichester High School who managed to book the Red Arrows for a special fly past at half past 11. She said: “The smiles on the faces of our students and staff illuminated another superb CHS Sports Day”

Teachers joined in on the fun and action when several took part in the teacher’s relay race.

Teachers of maths, English, science and PE, plus admin staff were all team players as they each ran 100m with the baton. The pupils were left seeing dust as Mr Boniface and Mr McLagan won along with two sixth-formers, Isaac Semedo and Aaron Woods.

Mr McLagan said: “The student/staff relay was never in doubt. Mr Boniface is definitely getting slower in his old age. We might have to advertise for a replacement next year to ensure the winning streak stays alive. We will reassess his speed in pre-season next year.”

He went on to add: “Sports Day is always the best spectacle of the year! There were many fantastic performances and a brilliant community spirit shown by all. Special mention to the Sports Academy pupils who were energetic and enthusiastic organisers of many events on the day. The Javelin legends were out in full force which made for a fantastic competition. Outstanding performances included: Ava Wilkins (Year 7), Elliot Rogers (Year 8), Kayden Badoorally (Year 9) and Liam Kennett (Year 10).”

Students were offered a huge variety of sports from discuss, long jump, high jump, dodgeball, cricket, football and tennis. However, those feeling less energetic could take part in Chess run by science teacher, Mr Matthews. He said: “There were over 250 games played on the day. Kyall Guy in Year 8 got a maximum 99/99 points in the tournament, he played 13 games and won all 13 by taking every opponents piece. Totally ruthless!”
It was winners in all the H’s with 7H, 8H, 9H, 10H all winning for their year groups.

Sports Day 3

When students weren’t competing, they were able to sing-along and dance to the entertainment provided by Miss G and the student band. They got the crowds going wild with uplifting tunes, classics and favourites across all genres.  Miss G was thrilled with the performance. She said: “Sports day this year saw the band performing songs like Sugar by Maroon 5 and Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne. Students came and listened and many sang along and made requests whilst they were waiting in line for the tuck shop.”

Miss Honour said: “Thank you to every single member of staff for helping to make Sports Day such a success and to our wonderful students for involving themselves within the day! It was a joy to see everyone enjoying themselves and some fantastic new school records being set. Congratulations to all of our winners!”
