Matthew Mossop

Matt has recently undertaken a Nuffield Science Placement over the summer holiday period.

The placement involved him undertaking a 5-week research project for Deltex Medical at their laboratories in Chichester, working 8.30am to 5pm each day. He had to work independently, but with a mentor from the company for support, and later complete his paper for submission.

He then had to present his findings at the award ceremony where the final assessment for the CREST Award was undertaken. His project was on 'The Effects of Four Possible Manufacturing Errors on Oesophageal Doppler Monitoring Probes'.

Matt was presented with his certificate for completing the placement and a British Science Association CREST Gold Award for the research project. The award ceremony took place at Brighton University. There were 200 applicants for the Nuffield Research Placements, with 35 successful students being selected and completing the placement.

The research undertaken by the students is real research and some even go on to have their papers published - before even getting to University!

The CREST award is recognised by both UCAS and DoE.
