Hockey Match report - 6/12/17
CHS 4 - Bishop Luffa 1
Miss Eames

CHS showed determination from the opening whistle and came close to scoring in the opening minute.

Not long after the start Alex Halfacree thought he had opened the scoring, but his goal was disallowed as it was deemed to have been at a dangerous height.

The CHS team kept up their pressure with the centre combination of Alex Pendle, Callum Peyman and Alex Halfacree combined well and dominated the game.

Their dominance was rewarded when an attacking move caused confusion in the Bishop Luffa defence and they put the ball into the back of their own net.

Freddie White worked hard up front alongside Ollie Summerill and they kept the ball in the danger areas, forcing Luffa onto the back foot.

As the game progressed, Luffa played themselves into the game and put together some good attacking moves. They came close to scoring, but Luke Denyer was on hand to deny them their equailser and some solid defensive play from Josh Parker, Callum Ayling and Jack Jones saw the first half end with CHS maintaining a slender lead.

The second half started at the same frenetic pace with the play fluctuating between both sides.

Alex Pendle stepped up the pace and went on an attacking run fairly early on in the second half. He broke through Luffa’s resilient defence and unleashed a reverse stick strike into the roof of the net, giving CHS a 2-0 lead.

Luffa bounced back from this and went on the attack themselves. Denyer made a couple of fine saves, but a flick into the back of the net after a goal mouth scramble gave them a deserved goal.

CHS sensed this was the time to step up their game and Pendle’s penetrating run gave Theo Batchelor the ball in front of goal. His first time strike beat the approaching keeper and CHS extended their lead once again.

Their fourth goal came fairly quickly after another penetrating run from Alex Pendle saw him strike the ball firmly into the bottom corner. Bishop Luffa were in disarray and struggled to string together any meaningful attacks.

At 4-1, CHS played around with different formations and Oscar Hanson came close to scoring on his debut for the team.

This was an excellent performance from the team, beating an opposition, that on paper, were stronger and the more likely to win the encounter as they boast a vast number of club players.

Our team played as a team and their hard work at training paid off.

Team: Luke Denyer, Josh Parker, Callum Ayling, Callum Peyman, Jack Jones, Alex Pendle, Freddie White, Ollie Summerill, Alex Halfacree, Theo Batchelor, Juste Balkyte, Cameron Smith, Harvey Henson, Oscar Henson, Jared Burgess and Cameron McManus
