Exam Board and Specification: Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 in Performing Arts (Dance)
This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in a career in performing arts, specialising in dance. This qualification is practical, vocational and project-based. The Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts has been designed primarily for young people aged 14 to 19 who may wish to explore a vocational route throughout Key Stage 4 and encourages personal development through practical participation and performance in a range of performing arts disciplines.
Studying this course you will complete three units; an individual showcase, preparation performance and production and dance skills.
Unit 1: Individual showcase – Writing a letter of application and preparing audition pieces. This is an externally assessed unit.
Unit 2: Preparation, performance and production - You will develop a performance piece as a member of a fictional performance company. You will take on a specific performing or production role and will prepare for, and produce, a performance by carrying out tasks that are appropriate to your role. This is an internally assessed unit.
Unit 4: Dance skills - This unit is all about developing your versatility as a dancer. As part of this development you will be encouraged to develop your physical skills to help you become a stronger and more flexible dancer. This is an internally assessed unit.
Homework will be based on the theory or practical sessions.
This will be set weekly and is an integral part of the course.
