Green fingers are ready to grow

Green fingers are ready to grow at Chichester High School thanks to a scheme run by a supermarket.

Morrisons ‘Good to Grow’ project saw lots of parents kindly collecting Grow Tokens when doing their weekly shop and passing them to the school.

These tokens meant staff at the school could exchange them for free gardening equipment.

ARC3 teacher, Miss Burgess said: “It’s so lovely to watch our students understand where their food comes from and the importance of growing plants from seed. They really enjoy the time they spend in the school’s garden.”

The scheme was created to help pupils across the country understand how food is grown and made which in turn prompts them to make better food choices both now and in the future.

Over 71,000 items of gardening equipment have been passed on to schools including; forks, trowels, watering cans, seed packets, compost bags and gloves.

One student commented: “I’m really excited to see my plants grow later.”

Another said: “It’s nice being outside and much better now we have this equipment.”

Chichester High School would like to thank parents and carers for donating vouchers, Morrison’s, The Rotary Club, and Mr Tidy for all their help and hard work in making this a success.
