Return to School - March 2021

CHS

Dear Parents/Carers

We are delighted to be able to welcome back all our students to school from next week. We have now tested year 7, 11 and the sixth form for the first time. Our testing system is running well and ready to manage increased numbers from next week. This will include first tests for year 8, 9 and 10 and second tests for the other years.

The information below is a reminder to you and our students of our expectations from Monday 8th March. Thank you in advance for your support in all of these areas.

Uniform

From Monday 8th March, all students will be expected to be in full uniform. We know that some stockists have lower supplies of uniform than normal so we would urge you to shop around.

If you are having problems with an aspect of uniform, please contact your child’s Head of Year by email explaining the issue. We also have the ability to offer support to families in receipt of the Pupil Premium or facing financial hardship.

Equipment

Your child will need to bring with them all the necessary equipment for the school day and they should not be borrowing from their peer group and we also want to reduce the amount of equipment we lend out at the current time.

Please can you check that your child has the following:

  • Pen and a spare
  • Pencil
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Face mask
  • Water bottle

Face Masks and COVID safety

Face masks must to be worn at all times indoors and when social distancing cannot be maintained. This means students in classrooms will need to wear face masks. Students who have a medical reason for not wearing a mask should have their lanyard with them at all times. If any student needs a lanyard if they have a medical condition which prevents them from wearing a mask, they should contact Mrs Childs, our SENCO or Mrs Peirce, our Welfare Officer. We will be encouraging students to eat outdoors unless it is raining.

Other measures like ensuring there is lots of ventilation, hand washing and sanitizing also play a big part in COVID safety. As such students will be expected to sanitize their hands as they come on to the school site and should wash their hands regularly. Classrooms will have the windows and doors open so there is good airflow to reduce further any risks of virus transmission.

Standards, expectations and making the most of our time in school

As in the Autumn, we will have very clear standards and expectations of behaviour in order that students make the most of their time in school.  You can view our behaviour policy on our website at www.chs-tkat.org under policies. Essentially if a student fails to follow an instruction they will be warned, if they persist they will then receive a detention. All detentions will be after school and held in each year group bubble.

Pastoral support

For many of us the return to school is very welcome and exciting. Equally, for many the return to school is nerve-racking and creates anxieties. We know some of our children will need extra support and we have been working with many families across the last two weeks. If you feel your child is worrying about the return to school or is very worried, please contact their Head of Year or one of our Pastoral Support Managers. If you are unsure of their details, contact me and I will forward your email on to the relevant person.

You can contact me here

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

Mr T Brixey
Deputy Headteacher
