Update from Mrs McKeown

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you and your families remain well.

Face masks:
You may have seen this guidance released by the Government yesterday evening about face coverings in schools during the new lockdown period:

“In schools where pupils in Year 7 and above are educated and further education colleges, face coverings should be worn by adults and pupils when moving around the premises, outside of classrooms, such as in corridors and communal areas where social distancing cannot easily be maintained. Face coverings should also be worn by pupils in year 7 and above when travelling on dedicated school transport to secondary schools or on public transport to college.
Some individuals are exempt from wearing face coverings and we expect adults and pupils to be sensitive to those needs.”

As a result, please could you ensure that your child has a face covering with them that can be worn as they enter the school grounds and worn around the school corridors between lessons. There is no expectation that children wear face coverings in lessons, although they may wish to. If your child loses/forgets their mask we will ask for 20p towards the cost of a new disposable one. Pupils can remove their masks in the communal bubble canteen/hall areas when they are sat down eating and/or drinking.

I also ask that your child has a plastic bag to store their face-covering in when it is removed in order to reduce the spread of the virus. If your child has a reusable face-covering we would encourage that you follow the national guidance of regular washing of these coverings.

Bubbles:
Please feel assured that our school continues to follow the national guidance on the use of bubbles, social distancing where possible and handwashing and sanitising routines, including cleaning procedures within school. As always our risks assessments, which have been implemented by the Trust, are being regularly updated in accordance with the latest guidance and are available on our website:

Clinically Extremely Vulnerable:
The guidance also updated advice for those that are clinically extremely vulnerable, if your child meets this criteria and you have not contacted us please contact :

Year 7, 8, 9: Mrs Diplock
Year 10, 11: Mrs Honey 
Sixth Form: Mr Freeman 

Clubs:
Unfortunately, this also means our extra-curricular clubs that have begun so positively will need to be postponed.


Year 11 and 13 supervised study/ period 6 will continue through this half term.

The uncertainty that we all face is unfortunately only likely to continue for some time, so it is really important that we all remain upbeat, focus on the things we can actually control and support each other as best we can. I will ensure I am in regular contact over the next few weeks and will keep you updated. I am aware that we may begin to face staffing difficulties over the next few weeks, as people are required to self-isolate, and again, I will ensure you are kept informed.
