CHS and West Sussex Music

West Sussex Music is proud of the recent musical successes of three Sixth Form students from Chichester High School – Matthew Hall, Thomas Hodgson and James Taylor.

Matthew, Thomas and James have received national recognition when they were invited to join only 164 teenage musicians to take part in the National Youth Orchestra Inspire Day.  The orchestra for this day was made up of NYO Inspire musicians, members of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.  This orchestra will be performing the work they have rehearsed at the Barbican in London, which will be filmed for television by Sky Arts.

Nick Thorn, the Inspire and Partnerships Manager for the National Youth Orchestra said of all the young musicians taking part, `Our tutors were impressed by the commitment and professional dedication they showed.’

Alongside working with the National Youth Orchestra, we are delighted to hear that Thomas Hodgson has been successful in gaining a place to study Orchestral Percussion at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from September. This incredible achievement will see Thomas studying amongst some of the most gifted young musicians in the country and sets him on a course for a career as a top-flight professional musician in the future.  All three musicians are leading players within the West Sussex County Ensembles, and as part of the West Sussex Youth Wind Orchestra, they will be enjoying the opportunity to perform in Birmingham’s, Symphony Hall in the final of the Music for Youth National Festival on Friday 6th July.
