Guided by Mr Tidy, the girls have worked exceptionally hard going through their Bronze, Silver and finally the Gold awards over several years.
For their Gold, they completed a series of residential trips, expeditions, volunteering and skills development, which all went towards their final award.

Achieving a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award takes each young person 12-18 months of hard work and dedication. To complete their Award Jasmine, Lauren and Lydia had to complete a four-day 50-mile expedition across Snowdonia in North Wales during September 2017 and a four-day trip in the Brecon Beacons during April 2018.  They also had to complete a week-long residential.

Jasmine completed a flying scholarship to help gain her pilot licence, Lydia went to the UK Space Centre; Lauren engaged with her spiritual side and attended a yoga retreat.

These activities were complimented by undertaking 12 months of volunteering work, learning a new skill and undertaking a new sporting activity.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is widely acknowledged as the world’s leading achievement award for young people: Duke of Edinburgh programmes enable any young person, aged 14-24, to develop key skills for life and work, such as confidence, commitment and team working.

Mrs McKeown, Head of School at CHS said, “I should like to congratulate Jasmine, Lauren and Lydia, and all our Gold Award holders on their achievement. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an important part of the School’s enrichment programme and is superbly managed by Mr Tidy and his team of volunteers who literally tackle all weathers to support students to gain the Gold Award. To have taken our students to this level is a great achievement and a tribute to the dedication of staff over the years and the commitment and hard work of our students.
