FireBreak

Following a ‘successful’ Firebeak course, Mason Carman graduated on the last day of term.

Mason’s achievement culminated in a ‘Pass Out’ and award ceremony where he was part of a team who performed a fire drill and demonstrated their new skills to their invited family and friends.

FireBreak is a youth programme run by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service in partnership with county council colleagues from youth services. It is aimed at young people between 12 and 14 and actively encourages students to become positive role models among their peers and within their communities.

The students attended the station over five consecutive days and worked alongside firefighters on a structured programme of events that combine classroom-based activities and practical training.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, said: “FireBreak is our flagship youth intervention programme and is a really powerful tool for transforming the lives of young people, their families and the wider community. “It was a pleasure to work with these young people and very rewarding to see them thrive as the week progressed. FireBreak is a very challenging course and it takes real determination, discipline and teamwork to succeed. They should all be very proud of themselves.”
