E.Y.E project at CHS

We were delighted to host the E.Y.E Project Eco-Summit at Chichester High School on Friday 13th October.

The E.Y.E. Project was established in 2008 by Tim Loughton, M.P. for East Worthing and Adur. His aim was to bring local schools together to focus on the importance of caring for our planet and to provide an additional opportunity for the young people within those schools to learn about environmental matters through the fun and educational activities available at the Eco-Summit events. The Eco-Summit events also provide an opportunity for schools to share the ‘green’ work that they themselves undertake each year.

 

The first Eco-Summit event, held at Worthing Town Hall in 2008, involved the creation of the ‘Green Charter’. This included 25 principles many of which can help schools to lessen their impact on the planet. This has since been updated following consultation with our Member schools, and the latest Charter was approved and adopted at the 8th Worthing & Adur Eco Summit in July 2015. Over the years, the Worthing and Adur E.Y.E. Project network grew across the Worthing & Adur area, then expanded into Arun, and then most recently into Chichester and surrounding areas. We now regularly communicate with around eighty local schools in these areas, across primary and secondary age ranges. From Spring 2017 all West Sussex schools will be invited to become E.Y.E. Project members.

The E.Y.E. Project is now led by a committee although Tim Loughton is still very much involved and stands as patron of the E.Y.E. Project. As well as arranging annual Eco-Summits the E.Y.E. Project arranges termly Networking sessions for school eco leads; produces relevant articles promoting local initiatives and schemes to help make schools more sustainable; and issues regular
e-newsletters to schools sharing news and information on ECO issues.
