CHS Hockey win 5 - 0 v Luffa

The newly formed year 10 hockey team played host to Bishop Luffa on Thursday. They have been training hard, both in lessons and afterschool and this paid off as they proved themselves to be the superior team. From the opening whistle, the team took their time to settle and absorbed the pressure that Luffa piled on them. Soon they were turning defence into attack and were rewarded with a goal when Callum Peyman forced an error from Luffa's key player. Theo Batchelor was the next to get on the score sheet when he found himself in space at the back post for an easy tap in. Some solid defensive work from Josh Parker and Freddie White, meant that Luke Denyer only had to make one save in the first half. Another attack forced a save from the Luffa keeper and Tom Seve followed up with a well-timed flick into the top corner. CHS went into the half time break with a well-deserved 3-0 lead.

After the break, Luffa managed to create some more attacking moves, but again these were thwarted by a well organised defence. Cameron Smith and Callum Ayling made some solid tackles and Jack Angell took control of the midfield, distributing the ball well to Charlie Simmons, Molly Ayling and Toby Evans. Denyer made some good saves and kept a clean sheet and the teamwork displayed by the squad, gave CHS their fourth goal when Evans slotted the ball past the keeper. In the final 15 minutes, Peyman dominated the midfield once more and CHS pressure resulted in a short corner. The routine didn't go to plan, but White remained cool under pressure and slipped the ball to Peyman, who struck the ball firmly into the backboard.

The team worked hard throughout the game and have been a pleasure to work with. They are keen for more matches in the Summer term.
